POMORIE-PROFILE OF THE MUNICIPALITY

Pomorie municipality is located in southeastern Bulgaria and is one of the 13 constituent municipalities of Burgas District.

Population

According to the latest 2021 census, the municipality has just over 29,000 permanent residents, of which almost 19,000 are of Bulgarian origin. About 4,200 define their origin as Turkish, almost 1,000 define their origin as Roma, over 700 define their ethnicity as “other”.

Tourism

The main tourist services are food, lodging and transport. Additional services offered and consumed by tourists during their trip and stay are health, spa and wellness services; jet skis for sports, tourism, entertainment, sailing and other water sports. Various tour operators offer opportunities for organized trips in the area, demonstrations and other cultural and educational events. In addition, the municipality of Pomorie has wonderful bases for congresses and corporate events (organization of meetings, conferences, seminars, trainings, presentations and other corporate events).

The officially registered bed places in the municipality of Pomorie are 771 for a total of 14,323 beds, including hotels, residences, bungalows, campsites, boarding houses, refreshment points, family hotels, guest houses. There are 234 refreshment points, including restaurants, café-pastry shops, catering outlets, bars and quick service outlets, for a total outdoor and indoor seating capacity of 17,672.

Sports and sporting events

Pomorie Stadium is a stadium used for football matches and is the home of OFC Pomorie. The stadium currently seats 2,000 spectators. Between the banks of the Pomorie Salt Lake and the stadium, there is a multipurpose sports hall, which offers a field suitable for soccer, basketball, volleyball and tennis, 2 squash halls and an aerobics room. Another room is located on the stadium grounds and is designed for strength training suitable for professional athletes.

Among the interesting sports events are Run Bulgaria – a cross-country race with a 10-kilometer run between the Black Sea and the Pomorie salt lake, Swimming Festival – mass swimming for citizens and guests of Pomorie, Motocross Championship, Street Fitness Competition, International Dancesport Tournament and many more.

Cultural program

The months of June, July, August and September are a number of interesting events and festivals covering various fields of art: the Orthodox music festival “St. Bogoroditsa – Dostoino esti”, the international children’s festival “Ship of the arts”, “Sea of wines” – concerts, exhibitions, tasting and purchase of the best wines of the region; Bulgarian folklore festival; retro parade and jazz festival “Anchialo jazz”, “Week of the Sea” with a suggestive parade of ships at sunset; light show with bikers from more than 50 countries.
